25 years of Long Night of Science

The Long Night of Science (LNDW) is celebrating its anniversary this year – because it is taking place for the 25th time in Brain City Berlin! On the evening of 28 June, around 50 scientific and science-related institutions will once again open the doors of their laboratories, workshops and lecture halls and show Berliners just how exciting science is. The LNDW 2025 programme includes more than 1,000 events. Tickets are available this year at a special anniversary price of 5 euros!

Who has ever seen an artery from the inside? It can be as thick as a thumb or as thin as a hair and supplies our tissue with oxygen and nutrients. If it gets blocked, it can be life-threatening. At the LNDW 2025, interested parties can explore a walk-in artery model at the Max Delbrück Centre for Molecular Medicine (MDC) in Berlin-Buch. The team of the Integrative Vascular Biology working group at the MDC will answer questions and tell you more about blood vessels and their own research. In the “Holzlaube” of the Freie Universität Berlin in Dahlem, visitors can go on an expedition to an ancient Egyptian priestess’ tomb – and take a journey back in time to the fascinating world of ancient Egypt.  And at the Alexander von Humboldt Institute for Internet and Society (HIIG) in Französische Strasse, an interactive escape game allows visitors to find out how machines make decisions for and with us in everyday life – and at what point humans should intervene. The trip to Adlershof is also worthwhile. Here, for example, the German Aerospace Center (DLR  takes you on a journey through the solar system. If you like, you can also try a delicious space ice made from chilled nitrogen, which is used in many areas of science.

With more than 1,000 experiments, lectures, exhibitions, presentations and science shows, the LNDW 2025 promises to be particularly exciting. This is no wonder, as the Long Night of Science is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. The diversity and broad spectrum of the programmes are also impressive proof of Berlin’s strength as a science location. “Research here in Berlin fascinates and inspires – but it also makes a difference: It creates knowledge, promotes innovation and strengthens our economy,” explains LNDW CEO Dr. Christina Quensel “Especially in times of change, we need bright minds, creative solutions and new perspectives. We offer all of this in this Long Night – comprehensible, approachable, inspiring”

Traditionally, the LNDW 2025 is a participatory event. Around 50 participating universities, colleges, hospitals, libraries, museums, Leibniz, Max Planck and Fraunhofer Institutes and other science-related institutions make science come alive in Brain City Berlin and demonstrate in many different ways how exciting research can be. As always, the following applies to all events: No prior knowledge is necessary! In order to get the most out of the Long Night of Science, you should do some research before visiting the LNDW and plan your travel route carefully.

The LNDW 2025 starts at 17:00. The programme ends at around midnight. To mark the anniversary, tickets are available at a reduced price this year. (vdo)

Long Night of Science: Saturday 28 June 2025, from 17:00 to 24:00.

Tickets are available online in advance. A single ticket costs 5 euros. The ticket can be used to attend all LNDW events. It also entitles the holder to use the special buses free of charge.
