Ahoi! MS Wissenschaft on Tour 2025

It's that time again: From May 14th to 18th, the MS Wissenschaft will once again anchor at Schiffbauerdamm in Brain City Berlin. The Berlin stop marks the start of this year's Germany tour of the floating science center. The theme of the interactive exhibition on board is "Energy of the Future" – in line with the theme of the Science Year 2025. Admission is free.

"What role do the North Sea and Baltic Sea play in the energy transition? How much energy does mobile internet consume? And how is green hydrogen produced? Visitors will learn about this and much more in the interactive exhibition on the MS Wissenschaft. Starting May 14th, the 100-meter-long exhibition boat will once again tour German rivers and lakes. On board: around 30 exhibits on the topic of ‘Energy of the Future'. The Science Year 2025 is also dedicated to the solutions, ideas, and unresolved questions that energy research is currently working on."

The exhibition on the MS Wissenschaft invites science enthusiasts to step into the role of researchers and explore the energy supply of tomorrow. In addition to technological and ecological aspects, they can also consider the social and economic sides of the energy transition. On board, visitors can design an intelligent power grid, explore the city of the future in miniature, recognize their own energy consumption on the internet, or take a look at Germany's path to climate neutrality by 2045. The exhibits come from research projects all over Germany. They have been provided by various scientific partners, including institutes of the Fraunhofer Gesellschaft, Helmholtz Association, Leibniz Association, Max Planck Society, DFG-funded projects, and universities.

Discussions, readings, and workshops for students are also part of the MS Wissenschaft's event program. For example, on May 16th, visitors can meet and question the researchers who helped design the exhibition during the "Meet the Scientists" event from 10 AM to 3 PM.

From Berlin to Bavaria: 29 stops in total

The first stop of the MS Wissenschaft at Schiffbauerdamm also marks the start of this year's Germany tour of the exhibition ship. The entire tour leads from Berlin and Brandenburg through Lower Saxony and North Rhine-Westphalia, through Rhineland-Palatinate, Saarland, and Hesse. The final stop this year is Straubing in Bavaria. In total, the ship will visit 29 smaller and larger cities. It is also planned to continue to Krems at the Danube, Tulln at the Danube, and Vienna afterwards.

The MS Wissenschaft has been touring annually since 2002. Since 2012, it has been traveling on behalf of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research to promote the dialogue between science and society. The boat was built in 1969 – originally under the name “MS VERA.” Each year, the exhibitions are newly designed by the initiative Wissenschaft im Dialog (Science in Dialogue). (vdo)
