• Apply now! Ideas for the future of communication

The new xG incubator from the TU Berlin and the Fraunhofer Heinrich Hertz Institute supports start-ups and founders in the area of 5G/6G communication technologies. Those interested can submit their documents for the BMBF-funded program until 31 March.

From radio access to the core and fibre optic transport network: It is about new ideas for the platforms of future communication technologies: Start-ups and aspiring founders can apply to take part in the xG Incubator until Easter. The objective of the new funding program offered by the Technische Universität Berlin together with the Fraunhofer Heinrich Hertz Institute (HHI): To create a powerful start-up and innovation ecosystem in the field of modern and future communication technologies that at the same time reduces one-sided dependencies.

xG-Incubator supports two different target groups:

  • Aspiring founders with a promising technology concept
  • Start-ups, that have existed for less than five years

The funding program has two phases:

  1. Evaluation phase: Founders are supported in evaluating their idea and developing a proof of concept as part of a sample application. They can also use the services offered by Science & Startups to develop their business model and market entry strategies.
Funding period of the first phase: twelve months (ending with the presentation of a successfully implemented demonstrator).

  2. Incubation phase: The technology is developed to market and financial maturity and the team is prepared for market entry. Start-ups and teams that already have a demonstrator will start the funding program in phase 2.

A special feature of the xG Incubator is its financing structure: In contrast to existing programs for established companies, the company shares remain with the founders. Start-ups can receive funding of up to 800,000 euros per project.

The xG-Incubator is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) as part of the StartUpConnect (link in German only) initiative. The program will run for four years. (vdo)
