    Strengthening open science

Together with Berlin Universities Publishing (BerlinUP), Technische Universität Berlin is actively involved in setting up the national Service centre for Diamond Open Access (SeDOA). Freie Universität Berlin and Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin with Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin are already partners of the national consortium, which includes a total of 15 universities, libraries and non-university scientific institutions. The aim is to develop further and establish the free publication model for scientific papers.

Diamond Open Access – this means free access to scientific knowledge. No fees for authors or readers. As the fourth partner of the Berlin University Alliance (BUA), Technische Universität Berlin is committed to implementing the Open Access transformation from May. Together with Berlin Universities Publishing (BerlinUP), it is involved in setting up the DFG-funded Service centre for Diamond Open Access (SeDOA ). The three other BUA partners FU Berlin, HU Berlin and Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin are also involved in the joint project. In total, the SeDOA consortium consists of 15 German universities, libraries and non-university scientific institutions.

As a central platform, SeDOA aims to facilitate access for researchers and institutions to a sustainable, fair and science-based publication culture and to develop further and establish the Diamond Open Access publication model. To this end, existing decentralised Open Access services are to be networked better and made more efficient. The visibility and use of this publication model should also be sustainably increased. As a German Diamond Capacity Centre, SeDOA will be part of a European network and is intended to strengthen international cooperation.

With BerlinUP, TU Berlin is bringing its expertise in the field of Open Access publications to the project, as the university library is responsible for Open Access book publications. Since its foundation in 2022, the joint Open Access publisher of the BUA universities has offered researchers publisher-independent advice and quality-assured open access publications in books and journals. It thus expands the possibilities for publishing research results. (vdo)
