• Providing impulses for cooperation: Transfer Week 2022

Intensify the exchange between business and science in Brain City Berlin – that is what Transfer Week 2022 aims to do. From 21 to 25 November, scientists can once again discuss future-oriented topics on a practical level together with companies from Berlin and Brandenburg in digital sessions and find out about funding opportunities for collaborative projects. Regional Transfer offices also introduce themselves and explain their services. Participation is free of charge.

With its high density of universities, colleges and research institutions, many innovative companies and a research-active start-up scene, Brain City Berlin is extremely well represented in the fields of science and business. An ideal starting point for the close cooperation between research and industry – and therefore for the transfer of knowledge for the development of innovative solutions on site. Transfer Week, which will take place for the third time from 21 to 25 November 2022, aims to raise awareness on the topic among scientists and small and medium-sized enterprises in the region. The aim is to use projects that are already running to show how strong technology transfer already is in the region. In addition, the exchange and networking between business and science in the capital region is to be intensified.

For five days, 18 partners will present and discuss practice-relevant knowledge on future-oriented topics – including the non-university research network Berlin Research 50 (BR 50) as well as Humboldt Innovation or the Digital Agentur Berlin (Digital Agency Berlin). A highlight of this year’s Transfer Week is already the kick-off event on the morning of 21 November: Representatives from research, business, society and politics will discuss the key question “Do innovations always have to be technical?” Afterwards, Transfer offices from Berlin and Brandenburg will present themselves in short pitches. This offers interested participants quick orientation as to who they can contact if they have questions about cooperation.

2022 key topics: AI, recruiting and funding

As the topic Funding for innovation projects has already met with great interest among Transfer Week participants in the past two years, Berlin Partner für Wirtschaft und Technologie GmbH, which organises the Transfer Week with the support of the Berlin Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Wirtschaftsförderung Berlin-Brandenburg, Chamber of Crafts Berlin and Enterprise Europe Network Berlin-Brandenburg, is also offering sessions on the topics of EU funding, national and regional funding and tax-based research allowances.

Other focal points of Transfer Week 2022 are the topics of Artificial Intelligence and recruiting. After all, 40 percent of German AI startups are now represented in Berlin. And at numerous research institutions, universities and colleges in Brain City Berlin, more than 65 professors are researching the various application fields of AI. The topic of recruiting has also become increasingly important in recent years. With more than two million people in employment, Berlin is considered the largest labour market and talent pool in Germany. More than 190,000 young professionals study here – and more than 30,000 graduates enter the labour market every year.

Targeted matchmaking

Transfer Week therefore promises to provide a broad insight into transfer activities in the capital region again in 2022. In addition, the organising institutions hope that the matchmaking sessions offered at the end of the day will bring as many participants as possible into conversation with each other. Ideally, initial contacts will lead to joint innovation projects. Transfer Week is all about one thing: Providing impulses and thereby laying the foundation for long-term cooperation. (vdo)
