Excellence Strategy of the federal and state governments

21.07.2016 | Press release: Statement on Federal and State Government Strategy for Excellence

The President of the Humboldt University of Berlin, the Presidents of the Technische Universität Berlin and Freie Universität Berlin and the Chairman of the Charité have agreed to pursue a common proposal initiative as part of the Excellence Strategy of the federal and state governments. This will give Berlin, one of Germany’s main science hubs, the opportunity to further expand its position among Europe’s big players.

Berlin’s universities are exceptionally strong in research and have an excellent international reputation.

Their support of emerging talent is exemplary in many aspects, their third-party funding has increased steadily in recent years and they are showing extraordinary achievements. Berlin universities are already reporting many of their successes as part of associations – in joint graduate schools, clusters and special research areas. They agree to a joint proposal for excellence to support Berlin as a leading location in the belief that this will create the right conditions to successfully compete for the best scientists, students and ideas.
